Three Cheers for Change
The light-bulb inconspicuously hanging over my head has finally lit up.
I’ve been denying this for quite some time but I am finally ready to admit it. I, Courtney Britt Colin, am in a deep, muddy rut. So I’m going all Obama-like. I’m going to make some serious changes. I’m changing my major, I’m changing my hair color, and I’m changing my attitude.
In the spirit of developing a more positive outlook, I decided to make a list of the small things I love in life.
I love holding mugs brimming with warm deliciousness close to my heart. I love looking for shapes in the clouds. I love staying in bed on rainy days. I love putting on clothes that are fresh out of the dryer, finding the perfect song for the mood I'm in, and catching up with old friends.
I love reaching the point in a book where I'm submersed in the new world, but I still have more of the adventure left. I love finding lucky pennies on the ground. I love laughing until I cry. I love waking up to the smell of bacon, playing games that I’m probably too old for, and people watching.
And those are just a few.
I’ve been concentrating too much on the things that bother me, on the everyday occurrences that leave me annoyed and frustrated. But if I am to focus on being happy, then I need to focus on the things that make me happy. So hooray! I’ve had an epiphany! It’s not exactly at the Buddhist level of enlightenment, but it is a start.
