Spring break!

It is the last day of classes before spring break (pause for celebration). It seems like every class has been the same this week. There has been that normal rush for final, little projects due the last day of class and despite some of the most valiant efforts by professors the combination of a nearing end and nice weather has resulted in restless classes. But one of the best parts about spring break is hearing everyplace people are planning to go.

Every class this week has been filled with talk about who is going where – Texas, Florida, Colorado. They all sound amazing. But when I listen to these stories it is a constant reminder of how my life is different. When people ask me what my plans are, I go off on this excited ramble about everything I have to do in good old Ottawa. I can’t wait to clean my house because the last week of projects has left it in shambles. I can’t wait to bake a cake (just to relax) and cater my best friend’s baby showers. I can’t wait to relax at the local spa to get a massage and get those highlights I never have time for. I can’t wait to see a few old friends from high school. But, most of all, I can’t wait to see my husband.

I have a friend that constantly says I turn her down to hang out with my husband, but when you get married in college there is a harsh reality – you really don’t see each other much. As I have mentioned before we both work multiple jobs and go to school so every second counts. For me, spring break is a time to catch up on all of my ‘wifely duties’ around the house and it's an 'extended second' with my husband. Maybe we’ll get to watch two movies instead of just one next week. Maybe we’ll splurge and go out and eat at a nice restaurant. Maybe we’ll play video games all night. It doesn’t really matter whatever we do…it is time with my husband and having the opportunity to do a few extra things – that makes it my own adventure.
