With the coming release of “New Moon” Nov. 20, the Twilight frenzy continues. Women of all ages are supporting the movies by wearing and carrying all sorts of memorabilia. Men aren’t usually included in the mix, but there are three men at Baker who proudly carry around their Stephenie Meyer books.
All three of them started reading the series before the first movie came out in November 2008.
“I like series books,” sophomore Darius Jefferson said. “I’ve read all the Harry Potter books and Lord of the Rings. So I figured why not try these?”
Senior Matthew Kretzschmer and freshman Taylor Edging decided to read the series for only one reason - to impress the ladies.
“When a girl finds out you read Twilight she freaks out and instantly wants to talk to you about the books,” Edging said. “They love it”
Kretzschmer already had a special lady in mind when he started reading the series.
“My girlfriend was reading the books and I was giving her a hard time about how silly they were. She told me I needed to read them because I would like them,” Kretzschmer said. “Unfortunately she was right, now I love them.”
All three of the men are planning on attending the movie as soon as it comes out. Even though the first movie didn’t follow the book exactly, the men said they each really enjoyed it.
“It’s better when movies don’t try to copy the book word for word and just interpret,” Jefferson said. “Otherwise, there is no point in watching if you’ve read the book.”
Both Jefferson and Edging are anxiously awaiting the premiere of “New Moon” in particular because it was their favorite book in the series.
“I’m excited to see what they are going to do with all the action scenes,” Edging said. “The book was epic; let’s hope the movie is too.”
