Halloween at Baker University is not only about trick or treating, but is also about lending a helping hand in the Baldwin City community.
Residence Life Coordinator Allison Scahill said the Jolliffe Hall haunted house raised $500 for the MARS math and reading scholastics after-school program at the Baldwin Intermediate Center.
“We didn’t raise as much as last year, but we’re very happy with the turnout,” she said.
Jolliffe Hall director Will Weyhrauch said this was his first time to participate in the event.
“I wasn’t around last year to help, but I jumped right in this time,” he said. “We sort of just went by the seat of our pants.”
This is the third year the Jolliffe haunted house event has been held, and Scahill said last year it brought in $600.
Weyhrauch characterized the experience as tiring, but said he was proud of the volunteers who helped with the process of pulling the event together.
Freshman Jordan Bauer attended the haunted house this year and enjoyed the experience.
“It was cool. It was good. It had a lot of scary things in it, and it was more than I expected to get for $2,” she said.
In addition to charging $2 for entry, hot chocolate was also sold for 50 cents, Scahill said.
The Jolliffe haunted house was open from Sunday to Tuesday, but Scahill said next year it would probably be open for only two days.
