Baker University students will have an opportunity to see the artwork of former students and local community members.
Junior Jill Gyulafia, who works at Art Affair, Baker’s student-run art gallery, said the Chistmas show, which will feature photography and a few ceramics pieces, will open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, and will run through Dec. 17, 2006.
Art Affair Director and Baker Senior Kali Pope said the show will feature photography by Baker alumni Erin Wilson, Alyssa Hudson, and Amanda Owens, as well as local artists Kathy Wismer and James and Gwyn Chandler.
“There will also be 3-D art by the company Clay Jewels, featuring Christmas ornaments, jewelry and ceramics such as bowls,” she said.
Professor of Art Inge Balch said that work by local artists Don Gauthier and Gale Carter might also be featured.
“I was also planning to do something myself,” she said. “And I could still move some mugs over there.”
Refreshments will be provided and the Baker University flute quartet will play music, Gyulafia said.
Gyulafia said she has definitely benefited from her experience working at Art Affair.
“It’s given me a better idea of what it is like to be a professional artist,” she said. “It’s not easy at all. You have to know about how to set up a gallery show, about hanging and lighting.”
Art Affair is located in downtown Baldwin City at the corner of Seventh and High streets.
