Student Activities Council is looking forward to a new year full of various activities and new equipment.
“This year’s actually going to be a lot different than past years,” President of SAC Jonathan Affalter said.
Affalter said SAC planned many of its activities in advance so students would be more aware of events.
“A lot of our events are in the planner this year,” he said. “We did our calendar at the end of last year and there are a few months where we literally have one or two things every week.”
SAC Adviser Shelby Coxon said live events will be booked over fall break when members attend the National Association of Campus Activities annual conference in Little Rock, Ark.
“You meet up with other schools that are nearby like KU and Emporia State … we might want the same act and so we try to get them through town at the same time so it makes it cheaper,” she said.
Affalter said SAC is working on more special events this year.
“One thing we’re doing new this year is Wildcat Wednesday,” he said.
Affalter said it would be on the last Wednesday of every month and activities like karaoke or bingo would be in the union.
Special Events Coordinator Kelly Baird said she’s excited about the year.
“We’ll have more of a variety because we’ll have more people contributing instead of a select few,” Baird said.
At its first meeting SAC approved spending approximately $5,300 on a new sound system.
“I think we spent almost $2,000 last year on hiring a sound person to come in because we didn’t have what we need,” Coxon said. “So when we have a comedian at BU Preview or whatever it is and we’ve already got the equipment … that’ll help out a lot.”
