Students looking for a meal on Sundays have a new alternative now that the Wildcat Café is accepting student meal plans on Sunday.
Darrell Bowersox, director of food service, said the modification is meant to help students with meal plans who would otherwise forfeit meals not used during the week. In the past, only meal plans with the flex option could be used in the café.
“Sundays you can eat in the café just as you would in the cafeteria,” he said. “That is only if you have meals remaining on your mealcard and you only get to choose from a few selected items.” Bowersox said students can choose from a hamburger, cheeseburger or deli sandwich meal. He said meals include one entrée, one side and one drink. Students can also choose a taco salad or an entrée salad and drink.
“We tried to come up with a variety of items to make it easier on the students and provide better options that are more popular,” he said.
Jenny Rideaux, café staff worker, said prices on items in the café have changed due to new combination menus, and that items are not as expensive if they are ordered as a meal instead of individually.
“Combos are now something new that you can order,” Rideaux said. “You are given a choice to order separately but you can also combine sandwiches with sides and make a meal like McDonald’s.”
Rideaux said many items like the wraps, clubs and salads are no longer pre-made but made fresh daily. She said a Caesar salad and a garden salad have been added to the menu, which has also been updated from a dry-erase markerboard to a typed version of menu items.
Sophomore Talyor Bonar said she has only eaten in the café once since school started and hasn’t had a chance to sample everything yet, but likes the improvements.
“I like the idea of the menu being typed,” Bonar said. “It makes it look more professional and I also like the combination of the sandwiches.”
