The Rev. Wallace Hartsfield singing “We Will Overcome” as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebratory chapel wraps up Thursday in Clarice L. Osborne Chapel. Hartsfield, who is currently the pastor of the Metropolitain Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., has worked on civil rights and redevelopment in the Kansas City area since the ’70s. University Minister Ira DeSpain asked Hartsfield to speak at the event to honor the life and civil rights efforts of Martin Luther King, Jr. The event also featured a musical performance by senior Evan Wright, a literary tribute to the civil rights leader by the Baker University Speech Choir and a musical medley by freshman Kisha Dodson.
