Being a part of Baker University’s Student Activity Council takes a lot of time, effort and dedication, which are things all 11 new leaders of the organization agreed to.
Director of Student Activities Sarah Hallinan said a lot of the officer positions require outside commitment to plan activities, which oftentimes can get overwhelming if a student is involved in other organizations.
“We have a lot of officers who are greek, athletes and involved in other campus activities, and it takes a lot of hard work and devotion to what is required for these specific jobs,” Hallinan said.
Hallinan said the interview process and selection of candidates is open to anyone interested.
“Everyone is entitled to apply, and the more the better,” Hallinan said. “We prefer to have someone with prior experience, but it is not at all required. “A lot of times the current officers want to recruit who they think would be a good asset; that way they know what the student has to offer.”
Junior Clayton Kellerman, who will serve as the 2007-2008 SAC secretary, said this is his first year applying for a leadership position.
“I wanted to be involved with SAC because it was a part of student life that I had not yet experienced, and I thought I would try it out,” Kellerman said. “I think the thing I am looking forward to the most is getting to be a part of planning the special events for students and seeing what their input is.”
Hallinan said taking on a leadership role is time consuming, but a good opportunity.
“Being apart of SAC is a great experience for anyone, and we encourage more students to get involved,” she said.
