The Baker men’s soccer team beat its second straight opponent by a score of 1-0 to start the season when it traveled to play Kansas Wesleyan University Sept. 4 in Salina.
“It was a battle,” junior Kome Okiomah said.
The Wildcats and Coyotes were scoreless at halftime and the lone goal of the game came in the second half. Senior Matt Hodges scored the goal in the 71st minute off a rebound, which gave Baker the 1-0 advantage.
Hodges said the defense was solid, and it was a really even match, overall.
Baker’s defense was strong once again, as they did not give up a goal in their first two games. Kansas Wesleyan was held to 10 shots for the game and only four of those were shots on goal. Goalkeeper Alex Burton improved to 2-0 on the season and recorded four saves against the Coyotes.
Finishing on the offensive end has been a problem for Baker, however.<br/>"It came down to we didn't finish as well as we could have," head coach Nate Houser said."It came down to we didn't finish as well as we could have," head coach Nate Houser said.<br/>Baker also beat Kansas Wesleyan 3-0 last year in Baldwin City.Baker also beat Kansas Wesleyan 3-0 last year in Baldwin City.
