The Baker women’s soccer team opened the MidAmerica Nazarene University tournament with a bang last Friday with a 3-0 victory over St. Mary’s of Nebraska at Liston Stadium.
The match, originally slated to be played at MNU in Olathe, had a venue change after rainstorms turned the grass field into a swampy mess.
The team didn’t complain however, as the new location provided the squad with a home field advantage.
“It was nice to be able to play at our home field, especially on the turf,” sophomore midfielder Haley Oborny said. “We were pleased when the change was made even though we didn’t get as many fans.”
Sophomore forward Christine Janssens opened the scoring for the Wildcats early in the match. Freshman Ashley Ukena and sophomore Jennifer Sampson, both midfielders, provided the insurance goals in the second half.
The ‘Cats suffered a disappointing overtime loss to Oklahoma City University on Saturday morning to bring their record to 3-3.
