Students in the greek chapters across campus will come back after the weekend to begin a week full of activities.
Greek Week events start Monday and continue through April 27.
Members of Panhellenic usually organize the event, but this year an executive council of eight greek men and women planned the week, starting in September.
“The council has definitely been a good thing,” Jeff Skillman, Delta Tau Delta fraternity president, said. “For them to have a mix of students from as many houses as possible is smart. “
Even though the planning was handled differently this year, Brett Bruner, director of greek life and health education, said many of the traditional activities were maintained.
A few new activities also have been added, including penny wars, recycled art and the hunger hunt.
Greek Week is based on each organization’s participation. For a greek chapter to do well in the activities, it is important to include as many members as possible in each activity.
“We want to compete, and we want to win,” Ron Atkinson, Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity president, said. “But in the end, we just want to have fun with the events.”
Kappa Alpha Psi only has five members and is taking the all-or-nothing approach where each member will be involved in all of the activities.
Although Greek Week may be viewed as a week of games and activities, some greeks see it as more of an opportunity to realize what the chapters have in common.
“Greek Week is a great opportunity for the houses to come together as a whole,” Bruner said. “It is a great celebration of the inner bond that they share.”
