The Baker men’s basketball team’s five-game winning streak was snapped as it opened the HAAC season against Evangel University Tuesday in Collins Center.
A 28-percent shooting night for the Wildcats and a 13-2 run to start the game for the Crusaders were too much for Baker to overcome, as Evangel won 72-48.
“It was one of those nights we were really off offensively,” head coach Rick Weaver said. “It was a disappointing game. I think the biggest thing, we got off to a slow start and never recovered.”
Baker struggled even more from 3-point range, making just two of 17 attempts. Evangel was much warmer inside Collins Center, shooting 46 percent for the field.
Senior Malcolm Greer was the leading scorer and the only Wildcat to reach double-digits in points with 11.
Tuesday’s game was the first of a three-game homestand for the Wildcats. Baker played Benedictine College Thursday, although the result was not available at presstime. The ‘Cats host Lindenwood University at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
