Whether she is playing volleyball or softball, not much gets by senior Jayde Allen.
In her final volleyball season, in which the Wildcats made it to the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Match, Allen had 703 digs in 137 games for an average of 5.1 digs per game.
Also, in 12 softball games last year, Allen committed only one error.
“I love being able to play two sports,” Allen said. “It lets me do two things I love instead of just one, and that was one of the reasons that I ended up coming to Baker.”
Allen’s defensive skills in volleyball are why volleyball coach Kathy Allen spoke so highly of Allen’s volleyball career and her legacy.
“I think that Jayde is probably going to be remembered as being one of the greatest defensive players in Baker history,” Kathy Allen said.
Throughout her volleyball career, Allen has moved up the list of HAAC honors.
It started in 2005 when she was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection.
Allen was then named Second Team All-Conference in 2006 and for the last two years she was a First Team All-Conference selection as well as being named the HAAC Libero of the Year.
Allen was also named as an All-Region Honorable Mention for her performance this season.
“Obviously, being named Conference Libero of the Year back-to-back is a huge, huge recognition,” Kathy Allen said.
Allen said one of the moments she is most proud of is the way this season ended, because despite going through highs and lows, the team was able to overcome and do well at the end of the season, finishing second in the conference tournament.
