The women’s golf team had to battle the elements in the opening round of its first fall tournament Monday at Southwestern College’s South Central Kansas Fall Invitational. The tournament was played at Winfield Country Club.
After several rain delays, the team was able to finish the first round and was in sixth place out of eight teams. Considering how difficult the course played, coach Karen Exon said the entire field had high scores going into the second round.
The Wildcats were able to jump up a spot on Tuesday, however, and finished fifth.
“I was really pleased to see us take care of business the second day and play better,” Exon said. “We still didn’t score as well as we are capable of scoring … but I was pleased to see the improvement, and I was pleased to see nobody quit.”
Junior Krista Yaktine had the lowest score for Baker, with scores of 98 and 96, which tied her for 17th individually.<br/>&#160;
