During the Baker University Student Senate meeting Tuesday, the remaining funds from the 2009-2010 school year were distributed to student organizations, the fitness center and a gate for the sophomore class.
Alpha Chi Omega sorority president Krista Yaktine requested to pass a motion to receive $300 for five women to attend the national Alpha Chi Omega convention in Washington, D.C., to gain leadership skills. The motion was not passed after a secret ballot vote ruled 16 to 18 against the request.
Student senate suspended the constitution in order to give the Student Activities Council $300 for its Wheat State Pizza study break night.
Student senate also moved to suspend the constitution in order to give Active Minds $300 for T-shirts, fundraising and activities for Mental Awareness month.
The Anime Club was also given $60.
“Active Minds is a new group on campus that has already done a lot for the campus,” Stephanie Brown, sophomore and treasurer of Active Minds, said. “We have not had time yet to fundraise.”
Of the remaining money, $1,000 will go to the fitness center lease and the rest will go to creating a gate for the sophomore class.
