The Baker University women’s bowling team spent most of Thanksgiving break in Fairview Heights, Ill., where it competed in the National Team Match Games.
While Baker did not do as well as it had hoped at the tournament, the experience of competing against tougher teams was beneficial.
“It was some tough lanes, but we stuck together,” sophomore Shelby Gitchel said. “We bowled last year’s national champions. We were only down, like, 100 pins in the match we bowled against them … it was a pretty tough tournament. A lot of the tough teams were there. I think for us being in our second year, we succeeded.”
BU will compete Friday in the Leatherneck Classic in Moline, Ill., and will resume competition on Jan. 28 at the Lion’s Classic in St. Charles, Mo., and on Feb. 4 at the McKendree Baker Challenge in Fairview Heights, Ill.
