The Baker University track teams went on the road Saturday to compete in a quadrangular hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb. along with Hastings College and Sterling College.
The men’s and women’s teams managed to leave the meet with a third place finish, while host NWU, who is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in NAIA Division III, won the meet.
Kindler said the underclassmen performed very well and the team had 27 seasonal bests at Saturday’s meet.
“We didn’t take all of our more experienced guys,” Kindler said. “Had we taken everyone we would have taken the number two spot, and vied for the championship spot.”
Freshman Reggie Harris lead the way for the men placing first in the long jump with a jump of 6.62 meters. Harris added additional points to the men’s final score of 73 with a second-place stand in the 55-meter dash, which he ran in 6.47 seconds.
Senior Brian Korn threw national qualifying distances in both the shot put and the weight throw, giving him a second and third place finish respectively.
Baker will be back in action Friday when it travels to Pittsburg for the Pitt State Open Invitational. The teams will compete against more then 20 teams, ranging from NAIA to NCAA Division I teams.<br/>&#160;
