The Baker athletic department has received 137 applications for the men’s basketball coaching position to replace Rick Weaver next season.
Assistant Athletic Director Theresa Yetmar and a search committee narrowed the field to 10 and video conference calls were conducted last week.
Several of the top candidates have visited Baker’s campus, including Brett Ballard, the University of Kansas director of basketball operations, who visited Monday.
“It’s been terrific,” Ballard said. “Everybody has been, I think the word I’d use would be family. I think everybody feels like one big happy family around here.”
Another candidate is Chad Eshbaugh, assistant men’s basketball coach at Cloud County Community College, who was on campus Thursday.
Yetmar has been impressed with the interest shown by the Baker community in finding a new coach.
"I think that it says a lot of things about the Baker community and how much they support athletics and also about how much coach Weaver has done to have everyone buy into our program," Yetmar said.<br/>&#160;
