The Baker tennis team competed in the Bethany College Invitational Friday and Saturday in Lindsborg and Salina.
Sophomore Danielle Griggs won the consolation side of her group, winning 8-5 over a player from Hastings College in the consolation finals. Senior Stephen Donly lost to Raphael Machado from Seward County Community College, who went on to win the tournament.
This year’s team is full of sophomores and is adjusting to head coach Joe Ahmadian and assistant coach Keith Pipkin.
“Experience is the most important thing,” Griggs said. “The team is really young. By the springtime, we’ll be there.”
Baker is competing in four fall tournaments to prepare for spring play.
“The competition is going to be tough, but it’s about the effort and how they play,” Pipkin said.
