The infection only looks like a bug bite in its beginning stages, but it can develop to be much worse.
Staphylococcus, commonly known as staph, has been an issue on Baker University’s campus this fall. Ruth Sarna, director of student health services, has confirmed several cases on campus this fall.
Freshman Logan Clark was hospitalized five days with staph.
“I had to take heavy, strong antibiotics through an IV,” Clark said. “It had to be cleaned with some bleach solution very thoroughly.”
Sarna, Associate Athletic Director Theresa Yetmar and custodial staff members have been trying to contain the outbreak.
“We’ve been taking extra precautions in cleaning the locker rooms and the fitness center just to make sure that this situation does not become a bigger problem,” Yetmar said.
