Although its 1-11 record might not indicate it, Ben Lister, Baker University head women’s basketball coach, has seen improvement from his team from the beginning of the season.
After losing a heartbreaker to Missouri Valley College 72-71 Saturday in Marshall, Mo., the Wildcats lost another close contest 72-69 to Evangel University Wednesday in Collins Center.
“I told the kids that they need to focus on the positives,” Lister said. “We’re playing much better than we were a month ago. We’re scoring at a much better rate. We’ve put together some things that we can build off of.”
While Lister is encouraged by the Wildcats’ recent improvement, he is discouraged that they will not get a chance to take the court until the Tabor Holiday Classic Dec. 30-31.
“I’m kind of sad to see the semester end and not have another game for three weeks,” Lister said. “I feel like we have some momentum, but I’m pleased with our progress.”
The Wildcats had four players score in double figures for the second straight game. Senior Rae Lynne Stewart and junior Alisha Fanshier were the top scorers for the ‘Cats with 13 points, followed by freshmen Shelbi Petty and Kyra Ramsey with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Stewart also led the Wildcats in rebounds with 12 and Fanshier had a team-high nine assists.
BU will be back in action against Sterling College Dec. 30 in the Tabor Holiday Classic.
