The Baker University Office of Multicultural Affairs is celebrating Black History Month with a Poetry Slam and Open Mic night at 9:30 p.m. Monday in McKibbin Recital Hall.
The last Poetry Slam and Open Mic night was in 2007 and Silas Dulan, director of mulitcultural affairs, has helped bring the event back to Baker University this year.
The Poetry Slam will include open mic poetry and other various performances by students, as well as a performance by the Baker University Speech Choir.
“The Poetry Slam is basically for freedom of expression,” Dulan said. “You can sing, dance or do anything to express yourself.”
In addition to student performances, accomplished slam poet Jamele Adams, of Brandeis University in Massachusetts, will speak at the event.
