The Baker University wrestling team has competed against a lot of schools outside of Kansas this season, but Sunday the Wildcats got a chance to prove themselves to the other schools in the state.
Baker came away with a second-place finish at the Kansas Cup in Hays, and defeated Fort Hays State University, which is ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II.
Ten wrestlers competed Sunday and each placed fourth or higher, including five second-place finishes and sophomore Parker Owen’s first-place finish.
“As a team, we wrestled well,” head coach Jimmy May said. “But we still have a lot of work ahead us.”
The Wildcats varsity squad will put its undefeated dual record on the line against William Penn University at 6 p.m. Friday in Collins Center.
