Baker University’s B-Alert system is a communication device used by the university that serves 1,340 students, faculty, staff and families of students in times of bad weather, emergencies and cancelations.
“I love that, within three minutes, I can e-mail everyone who is signed up,” Dean of Students Cassy Bailey said. “It’s really reliable. If people don’t want to be aware, they don’t have to be bothered by it.”
Bailey sent 1,340 e-mails successfully after last week’s blizzard that caused the Baldwin City campus to close for two days, but 118 text messages failed to send. Bailey said the Information Technology department is investigating why they failed.
Bailey encourages students, their families, faculty and staff to sign up for the alerts at www.bakeru.edu/balert.
