The Baker University tennis team’ started off its spring season Tuesday with a tournament against Newman University in Wichita.
The ‘Cats came away with only one win, but had several close matches.
The men’s team was shutout 9-0, while the women’s team fell 8-1.
Senior Molly Flanigan, freshman Caitlyn Metseff and sophomore Jordan Toothaker all lost narrowly in their singles matches, while sophomores Danielle Griggs and Brie Lowrey won their doubles match to score the only win for the Wildcats.
“Considering Newman is a (NCAA) Division II school, I thought we played well, and competed well, which gives us a good outlook for the spring season,” coach Joe Ahmadian said.
The tennis team has two more meets this weekend, one against Tabor College Saturday and another against Rockhurst University Sunday.
