The Baker University women’s basketball team pulled out a victory in dramatic fashion Tuesday in Collins Center. The Wildcats came back from two major deficits to take the win from Friends University 56-55 on a buzzer-beating 3-point shot by freshman Shelbi Petty.
The ’Cats came back from a 31-22 deficit at halftime, and again after being down 52-37 with 4:53 to go in the game. Head coach Ben Lister was happy to get the win.
“It’s always exciting to get that first win,” Lister said. “We took it right down to the wire. I believe coach Ballard’s first win was on a game-winning 3-point shot as well, so I felt like I needed to follow that up and do the same thing.”
Lister said with a young team, sometimes you just have to let players make plays.
“You just have got to have some opportunities to let them go out and be in those game situations,” Lister said. “It’s not always motivation from the bench, it’s them stepping up and making plays because there’s just some things as a coach that you can’t do for them.”
Baker will return to action Friday against Park University at the Ottawa University Classic.
