Sophomore Lauren Jaqua has been the top runner for the Baker University women’s cross country team all season, and she did it again Oct. 8 at the Gary Stoner Invitational in Fayette, Mo.
Jaqua finished second in the women’s 5k, above many NCAA runners, with a time of 18:51.27.
The women placed third overall despite fighting illnesses and injuries.
Sophomore Ashley McBride and freshman Kerry Kurta finished in the top 20 for the ‘Cats, earning 11th and 14th place finishes, respectively.
“We got third place, and we beat our main conference competition, which is Central Methodist (University),” Jaqua said. “They’ll be our main competition at conference when we go back and race at Central Methodist again.”
Junior Aaron Caldwell has been the top runner for the men, leading the ‘Cats in all of their meets this season.
Caldwell finished eighth in the men’s 8k on Oct. 8 with a time of 26:14.86, helping the team earn a fourth place finish.
Junior Corey Clark finished 17th with a time of 26:53.47.
The ‘Cats will participate in the Mid-States Classic Saturday in Winfield.
