Baldwin City’s Feaster’s Bistro, 519 Ames St., has closed its doors and put up for sale and for lease signs.
Owner Shawn Nelson said he enjoyed owning and running the business, but health problems in his family caused a move to Kansas City, Kan., and he turned over operations to family friends.
“My wife has had a lot of health problems,” Nelson said. “After my wife found out she was pregnant, the doctor wanted her closer so she could be monitored more closely, but our friends did a great job running the restaurant since our absence.”
Nelson has owned the property since 2009.
“It’s still a pretty tough economy, but Baldwin City could benefit from another restaurant in town to help give it more variety,” Nelson said.
There has been interest in the property for a possible barbecue restaurant, Mexican restaurant or a dance studio.
“It’s a big operation to open and run a restaurant,” Nelson said. “I’m going to miss it.”
What will occupy the building in the future is still unknown.
“We appreciated the community for supporting us,” Nelson said. “We hope the business that takes our place will be a great help to the Baldwin City community.”
