Indoor Track goes outside

With far above average temperatures for Baldwin City, the indoor track team has taken practice back outside to Liston Stadium.

For the fourth week in a row, the Baker University track and field teams headed into a meet with the hope of having athletes qualify for the NAIA Indoor National Championships.

The Wildcats took a limited squad to the Jayhawk Classic Jan. 27 in Lawrence, but no one was able to hit qualifying marks.

“For the most part, it was a fourth meet in a row type of performance,” head coach Zach Kindler said. “They still went out and performed well, but standards wise, they couldn’t quite hit the standards that we were trying to hit.”

Baker Orange staff member Jenna Stanbrough led the way for the women with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run.

On the men’s side, freshman Eddison Mason placed first in his section of the 200-meter dash with a time of 23:19 and junior Eric Larson got third in the 1,000-meter run.

The teams were also able to catch a glimpse of conference foe Central Methodist University.

“It was a great opportunity for us to see Central Methodist because right now that’s who definitely is going to be our biggest competition,” Kindler said.
