Baker University Board of Trustees member Susanne Teel is receiving recognition for her support of Baker University after being selected as the recipient for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District VI Conference Volunteer of the Year award.
“I’m totally humbled,” Teel said. “Now I am going to work doubly hard to show that I deserve this award.”
The award is given to a person who has worked to further the success of education and reflects service to education and to the institution.
Teel attends many events at Baker, ranging from sporting events to choir concerts. She also is highly involved in the parMentors program.
“I support (the students) 100 percent,” Teel said. “I just want to be there for their moments of glory and for all that they’re doing and to let them know that the alums are with them.”
Teel attended Baker for two years but transferred and graduated from a larger university to prove to herself she could succeed in the larger university setting.
She said she loved her time at Baker and still works as hard as possible as a former student to be with the current Baker University students.
“Anything and everything is about the students,” Teel said. “To be able to serve at Baker is my greatest award.”
