After months of planning and advertising the Early Career MBA, Baker University has decided to postpone the launching of the graduate program on the Baldwin City campus.
“A weak start is just terrible, so we decided we’re better off postponing it,” Kevin McCarthy, professor of business and economics, said.
The 15-month graduate program is designed for recent undergraduates who are dedicated, strong students and willing to make the intense program their life for the 15-months they are enrolled.
“There’s definitely some interest, but for the commitment we were asking, the end of March was really too late (for students to begin in June),” McCarthy said.
McCarthy said although the program won’t launch until next summer, the university was able to learn and understand the MBA marketplace better and discuss student concerns about the program, too.
“We had some interesting discussions about risk,” McCarthy said.
Some potential students expressed concerns about the risk of leaving their jobs and also about the risk Baker is taking in launching the Early Career MBA program.
