The BOOK Program is coming back to the Baldwin City campus to show students how being a part of the program can benefit their internship experience.
BOOK, the Baker Organizational Observation for Knowledge Program, was established by a group of faculty members on campus.
“This program is an opportunity for students to learn several things, including the background of the company, their production and operation, their marketing, their source of funding, man power or their management,” Director of Career Services Susan Wade said.
To participate in this program, students must complete their internship, but also become more invested into the company as a whole.
Students must collect research on how the company hires employees, and with the research the student accumulates, put together a 30-minute presentation about their experience and research.
In late September, impartial judges will watch the student presentations. The judges will consist of alumni and business owners in Baldwin City. Each year the prizes vary, but the first prize winner always receives a $1,500 cash prize. Depending on the amount of money and students who participate, more winners could get various cash prizes.
“Students who have gone through this program have reported that it had enhanced their internship experience, and allowed them to learn so much more about the company they were working for,” Wade said.
