For the first time this season since Dec. 15, the men’s basketball team walked off the court with a win.

The Baker men hosted Graceland on Saturday and ended the game with a score of 83-69. This game snapped a nine-game losing streak to give the ‘Cats an 8-14 record on the season and 2-10 in the HAAC.

“We got EJ going early,” head coach Sean Dooley said. “He really produced, hit some shots and got to the foul line, so that kind of opened it up.”

Senior guard EJ Carter had 24 points and 6 rebounds in the game, which sparked the team to keep up the momentum it needed to win.

“It’s just a confidence thing,” Carter said. “We were able to get things going with easy buckets and everything else started working.”

Freshman guard Gregg Easter chipped in with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Sophomore guard Javeion Gray had 10 points and 4 assists in the game as well. These efforts gave the Wildcats the edge against the Yellowjackets, who fell to 5-17 on the season and 2-11 in the HAAC.

“Hopefully our guys will build some confidence off of this,” Dooley said. “To win in this league, you’ve got to compete for 40 minutes and you’ve got to be able to play equally as well on both ends of the floor.”

The Wildcats hope to string more wins together to work toward the conference tournament in March. The ‘Cats will get a chance to string two wins together when they travel to Atchison to take on the Ravens from Benedictine at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
