DIY: Candle Holder Desk Storage

Story by Abigaile Roorda, Writer

What You Need:

  • 4 glass candle holders
  • a candle warmer
  • tissue paper in four different colors
  • neon pom balls
  • shimmer poms
  • paper towels
  • a pot holder
  • scissors
  • tacky glue

Step 1: Do NOT perform this step in the residence halls.

If you use candle holders that have had candles in them, place the candle holder on the candle warmer to melt any wax left in the holders. Repeat with all four holders.

Step 2:

When the wax has melted, pick up the glass holder with the pot holder. Be very careful as the holder will be hot; use a paper towel and wipe out the melted wax. Allow a few minutes for the glass holders to cool before you begin decorating. Repeat with all four holders.

Step 3:

Take a candle holder and a sheet of tissue paper. Wrap the tissue paper around the holder. Take the scissors and cut the paper to fit the holder. Repeat for all four holders.

Step 4:

Take the tacky glue and draw a line of glue on the outside of the holder from the lip of the holder to the base. Stick the paper on the glue and wrap it around the holder. Draw a second line of glue to secure the tissue paper in place. Cut off any extra paper to be sure it looks the way you want it to. Repeat on all four holders.

Step 5: Optional

To add individuality, take the neon and shimmer pom balls and glue them around the tissue papered holder wherever you want. Do this with whichever holders you would like.

Another way to individualize your holders is rather than wrapping your holder, rip the tissue paper into randomly sized pieces. Spread tacky glue on the holder and place the pieces of tissue paper on the glue. This one can take up to 24 hours to dry.

These holders can be used for office supplies, jewelry, or as décor if you buy electric tea lights.
