With a grant received for the 2009-2010 school year, the recycling program at Baker University is continuing to increase.

“We have been using cardboard boxes, but the new boxes are more uniformed and have been very instrumental in bringing awareness to recycling,” Director of Natural Areas Roger Boyd said.

The money from the grant was used to purchase the new recycling bins, which have been placed around campus and in the classrooms of Mulvane Hall.

Working with the recycling program since 1989, Boyd has seen Baker collect nearly everything from paper to metal.

Being able to expand the area the bins are placed in, and having them more exposed to the student body, helps serve as a reminder nearly everything can be recycled.

“I think it helps students become more involved,” Department Assistant Kathy Wright said. “Everyone can do a small part.”
