Wrestling team faces tough schedule

Head wrestling coach Jimmy May feels as though his team is competing against some of the country’s top wrestlers week after week. At first this might seem like an exaggeration, but May has planned such a competitive schedule this season that it appears to be true.

The No. 4 Baker University wrestling team hit the mats for its first tournament of the season Sunday in the Dan Harris Open.

Wrestling team ranked No. 4 in preseason poll

In just its fourth year, the Baker University wrestling team is ranked No. 4 in the country, according the NAIA Coaches’ Preseason Poll. Although head coach Jimmy May said he is appreciative of the recognition, he said the team still has a lot of work to do.

Thirteen of the 52 wrestlers on the Wildcats’ roster reside from the state of Nevada, with seven of the 13 wrestlers coming from Las Vegas and five of the remaining six from Henderson, Nev., which is about 20 miles away from Las Vegas.
