The capital of Kansas will be taking a month-long hiatus from its name Topeka.
Topeka mayor Bill Bunten is calling for the city to be referred to as “Google, Kansas - the capital city of fiber optics,” for the month of March.
This stunt is in efforts to convince Google to use Topeka as the trial city for its new and fast Internet connection.
Sophomore Tiffiny Brown lives in Topeka and said the name change is really funny.
“I think it’s awesome,” Brown said. “My friends told me and I just laughed.”
Brown said she hasn’t quite adjusted but she supports the bold move in hopes that her hometown will receive the faster Internet connection.
If Topeka is selected as the test city, it will be granted 100-times faster Internet connection, which Google will provide.
