A familiar trend reoccurred Tuesday for the Baker baseball team as it fell in the seventh inning yet again, this time to the University of Saint Mary.

Baker had a 7-4 lead before the Spires stirred up a five-run seventh to take the lead, and game, 9-7. Baker out hit the Spires 14-11, but committed three errors. Sophomore Joey

Orozco said the ’Cats did not play to their potential.

“They got hits in the key situations and we couldn’t make a play,” Orozco said.

Junior Brandon Truitt was key for the Wildcat offense. He recorded a game-high four RBIs on two hits – one of which was a home run. Freshman Dustin King’s grand slam was the highlight of game two before BU fell 14-7.

Baker will shift its focus to MidAmerica Nazarene University, where the ’Cats play an important conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday in Olathe.

“We are headed in to battle with MidAmerica for the playoffs,” Orozco said. “It’s crucial and a sweep would be huge.”
