The Baker football team will pile into the buses and hit the road for the final time during the 2009 regular season Saturday as it travels to Springfield, Mo., to take on Evangel University.

The Crusaders are 2-6 on the season, but are coming off a 27-19 win against Avila University Oct. 31. The win snapped the team’s three-game losing streak.

“Our guys will be re-focused this week,” head coach Mike Grossner said. “Evangel’s a good football team. Their record no where near indicates what type of talent they have.”

Evangel could be playing with some extra motivation as this will be its final home game of the season, and on Oct. 26 the Crusaders’ head coach Scott Metcalf announced he will resign at the end of the season.

Last year, Baker put up more than 500 yards of total offense against Evangel, winning 45-9.

The Wildcats are on a three-game winning streak and are winners of five of their last six. Baker is 5-3 on the season and is coming off a 26-6 win over rival William Jewell College last week.

“I feel every year that, I take great pride with our staff, that we get better. That we finish the year better than we started, and I’m glad that’s happening for our program,” Grossner said. “That tells us that our kids have bought in, and our staff’s doing a great job.”
