Baker University wrestlers will battle York College at 7 p.m. Saturday at Baldwin Junior High School.

The dual was originally schedule to take place in Mabee Memorial Hall, which hasn’t hosted a live sporting event in more than 20 years, but plans fell through when interest of the premiere dual spiked.

“We had quite a bit of interest in the dual meet, so we felt like (Mabee) might be too small of place. It would be a fire code violation type thing and we might have had to turn people away,” head coach Jimmy May said. “We wanted the first event to be a positive one, so we didn’t want anyone to be turned away.”

Jake Price, a freshman wrestling at 165 pounds, is looking forward to wrestling as a Wildcat for the first time.

“I think everyone’s excited to get on the mat, it’ll feel really good” he said. “I’m kind of nervous, but I feel ready.”

The Wildcats will wrestle again Nov. 8 at the Dan Harris Wildcat Open in Collins Center.
