Wrestling squad wins first-ever dual

Baker University’s debut wrestling team took down its first opponent Saturday night at Baldwin Junior High School.

York College fell to the Wildcats 30-21. Pins by Joe Pace at 174 pounds and Brandon Gebhardt at 197 pounds helped secure the victory.

“In my opinion, that was the way to start my college career off right,” Pace said. “I was really excited and I was glad I could contribute to our win.”

The Wildcats then hosted the Dan Harris Wildcat Open Sunday at Collins Center. Fourteen colleges and universities participated in the tournament.

Nine Baker wrestlers finished the day with a top-six place.

The Wildcats travel to Mitchell, S.D., Saturday to compete in the Dakota Wesleyan Open and battle Concordia University Tuesday at home.
